Greetings from Bridging Solutions!
We are proud to announce that Rolando Corsa, PE, a Project Manager with Bridging Solutions, recently attended a refresher course on Bridge Inspection presented by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway Institute. This training has allowed Bridging Solutions to be prequalified by FDOT for Work Category 5.1 - Conventional Bridge Inspection. Here are a few bridge inspection fast facts that Rolando learned at the training sessions:
1. Sufficiency Rating is the numerical rating of a bridge based on its structural adequacy and safety for public use and its serviceability and functional obsolescence. Sufficiency Rating is now obsolete with regards to federal funding. There are no dedicated bridge funds. See more information here.
2. Overall, the nation currently has more functionally obsolete bridges than structurally deficient bridges.
3. National bridge data can be found here.
4. Current legislation can be found here.
We also wanted to let you know that Ralph Verrastro, PE will be the lead presenter for a technical presentation titled "Accelerated Bridge Construction Case Study: Rock Ridge Road Bridge Replacement" at the Florida Engineering Society's Annual Summer Conference & Expo in Marco Island, FL on August 8, 2014. We hope you can attend. If not, let us know and we can send you a copy of the slides. See the photos below of this bridge that was designed using Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS) abutments.
